Have you ever noticed there are 31 Proverbs? That's a Proverbs for each day of the month. What a great place to start if you're looking for a daily devotion to add to your reading! And so this is where this idea comes from for "a way to worship" for today:

BOAST:
"My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad."

Getting Connected

Getting Connected
A passage of Scripture in Titus 2 encourages older women to train younger women: “Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the Word of God” (Titus 2:3-5).

So the mature are called to train (mentor) the younger generation. Throughout the Bible, we discover excellent examples of this. We think of Moses and Joshua, Naomi and Ruth, Elijah and Elisha, and Paul and Timothy. In my ministry, as I seek to encourage mentoring, the first question I hear is: “How do I get connected?” Here are some suggestions:

If you’re considering a mentor: Once you have selected a potential mentor, in your own way and time approach that person and say something like this: “I would like you to consider being one of my life mentors. What I mean by that is simple: I’d like to be on your lifelong prayer list. Every time we meet, I’ll come prepared with specific priorities and tell you exactly what kind of help and advice I need. A mature person like you will help me to realize my full God-given potential over a lifetime.”

If you want to take the initiative as a mentor: Meet with a potential protégé and say something like this: “I’d like to be one of your life mentors. What I mean by that is simple: I’d put you on my lifelong prayer list, and I’d like to be there when you enjoy success and when you go through difficult times. Every time we meet, I’ll ask mentoring questions such as: What are your priorities? How can I help? How can I help you realize your full God-given potential?”

Good questions to ask as a mentor include the following:
  • What would you like to do with your life?
  • What are your major interests?
  • What are you good at?
  • Tell me something of your life story.
  • Tell me about your family.
You will discover that the time you give to mentoring will be richly rewarding as you witness life-change.
